Optoma has announced the ML1080 portable laser projector in China. Also known as the ML1080ST, it features an RGB laser light source with a brightness of up to 1,000 LED lumens. The projector has a short throw ratio between 0.78 and 1.2 and a high contrast ratio. Optoma claims it’s the world’s most compact cinema projector, covering 98% of the BT.2020 color space, which is rare to find in smaller projectors.
The ML1080 features Power Focus and four cornerstone tools, with ToF technology allowing the projector to automatically perfect the image; Optoma states that this process takes just two seconds. Passive infrared (PIR) sensor technology can intelligently reduce the brightness when people move near the laser beam. Plus, a flexible-hinge stand allows you to adjust the projector to the right angle for your space.
The Optoma portable projector uses a MT9669 SoC with 3+32 GB of memory. The USB-C powered device’s ports include USB-A, USB-C, HDMI and RS232. The compact device weighs less than 1 kg and the housing with a matte white finish is made from 50% post-consumer recycled plastic. The ML1080 has won multiple awards including the Green Good Design Award 2023 and the iF Design Award 2023. The Optoma ML1080 will be launched globally in 2023. It’s unclear when exactly the Optoma ML1080 portable projector will launch and how much it will cost.

I’ve been interested in technology for as long as I can remember. From a young age I loved gadgets and understood how things work. Since graduating, I have worked for several technology companies in the FinTech, AdTech and Robotics sectors.
