ThinkPad laptops are an American brand founded by IBM in the early 1990s. But since 2005, the ThinkPad brand has been owned by Lenovo, originally a wholly China-based company. Since then, Lenovo has internationalized a lot, but the Chinese roots are still there.
Case in point: Lenovo regularly launches China-exclusive ThinkPad laptops. Last year the ThinkPad Neo 14 was released, a ThinkPad laptop that is unavailable anywhere else with a unique design and interesting hardware configuration. Notably, it featured both Intel and AMD H45 CPUs, as well as GeForce RTX GPUs, which is unlike any other 14-inch ThinkPad laptop. This ThinkPad was certainly more suitable for the prosumer than other models.
Lenovo isn’t releasing a second generation ThinkPad Neo 14 this year – at least not under that name. Instead, this line will continue under the ThinkPad T-Series name, which is probably the most well-known ThinkPad line alongside the ThinkPad X1 Carbon (available on Amazon for $1,812). The successor to the ThinkPad Neo 14 is therefore called the Lenovo ThinkPad T14p.
The new ThinkPad T14p is based on the same chassis as the ThinkPad Neo 14, meaning: classic hinges on the top base, most ports on the back, black aluminum construction. Compared to the 2022 model, the Intel Alder Lake CPUs are replaced by Intel Raptor Lake and the old Nvidia GeForce RTX 2050 is replaced by an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050, which is now also outdated. An AMD version was not announced at this time but could follow in the future.
Based on the ThinkPad Neo 14, it can be assumed that the new Lenovo ThinkPad T14p will remain a China exclusive. However, if it’s like the ThinkPad Neo 14, adventurous western buyers should be able to get it via Aliexpress.
